2002 Jeep Liberty check engine light

" check engine " light comes on after filling my gas tank. I turn it off by disconnecting the battery cables. The light will remain off until after I fill up again and I have to repeat the routine. ( I always remove the ignition key so that the ignition is totally off during filling )...Can you suggest a permanent fix ? ...tnx...Matt

You need to pull the OBD2 code/s from the computer in order for us to provide assistance here- Autozone will do this for you free of charge-Sounds like the problem is coming from the Evaporative System-who knows could be the gas cap or a purge control valve or fuel control module.
