Grounding a wire will not deactivate the immobilizer. It only shuts off the contents theft alarm connected through the door switches, making it easier to steal it quietly. The immobilizer cannot be bypassed that way, or any way really as it isn't a separate system but is part of the BCM and PCM modules along with the ignition switch and security sensor.

What you can try is to reconnect the wire you grounded as it provides part of the signal path for the door locks. Next disconnect the battery. Reconnect the battery and use a known good key to lock and unlock the drivers door.
Now watch the security light. It should go out when you try to start the engine. If it is still on and the engine shuts down then you will need a dealer level scan tool like a DRB to access the security functions and see if it is seeing the proper signals from each piece of the system.
