how do i know if my light is working,how do i check the bulb and the plug the bulb goes in

To check a bulb, remove it and run a continunity test on it. If you have continunity, it is good.

Are you concerned that the light should be coming on but isn't?

Most all of the bulbs should come on for a bulb test for few seconds every time the key is turned on.
