Engine Mechanical problem
1983 Jeep CJ7 V8 Four Wheel Drive Manual n/a miles

I have a Chevy 350 with 8 pounds of oil pressure cold, hot, and at all rpms. I have changed the oil, filter, and the oil pump. The bearing and lifters make no noise and with the valve cover off it does pump oil but not much and does not increase with rpm.I am running an auto gauge mechanical gauge.

See my profile,

Why don't you try a different gauge 1st, before you tear on in to it. Or one installed directly on the block, just to see if it is consistant with your present gauge.

Did you install a "High Volume" oil pump?

Other than clearance wear on moving surfaces, you might investigate your oil pressure by-pass valve (relief valve)---inside/above your oil filter---for a weak spring/build-up not allowing it to close fully (see manual for how to get into it)

Thanks turddog, It was the gauge! I thought the gauge was correct in showing a low pressure when I pulled the valve cover, just a small river flowing over the valve springs. I thought it should dump out everywhere.

i replaced the pump with a factory volume (it had a high volume).

The gauge showed 40 psi and moves to 60psi at 3,000

SUPER!

Its usually something EZ with a Jeep!

If you explore the CJ5 and CJ7 Forums you may find other peoples answers that may help with other problems.

I have answered many of them.

I sent you a "Private Message" DID YOU GET IT? It may help you even more with your Jeep. Let me know if it does.
