I've very recently purchased a 1980 CJ7 that has a "Chevy 4-cyl 150 cubic inch choke engine." It's a 4-speed manual transmission. It's small looking under that huge hood. Ok, here's the deal....The resistance in pushing down the clutch with my foot has almost disappeared. 99% of the time it won't let me shift the car into any gear at all. It feels like I'm trying to shift it into gear without pushing in the clutch (which I obviously am). I've made sure it wasn't mistakenly knocked in to 4 wheel drive but stopped fooling around with it pretty soon. I didn't see any reason for me to keep trying to shove it into first when it obviously doesn't want to go. I'm guessing I need a new clutch. I'm just getting into the "automotive scene" and this will be my first "toy automobile." I'm trying to do as much as I can myself (with the help of numerous automechanically inclined friends) on the vehicle any advice or information you might have would be great!!!
