Engine temperature guage rises. The temp will go down when I put the heat on. I have replaced the thermostat. The engine has never actually overheated that I know of. What should I be looking for?

See my profile, and please respond, this is my hobby, and get no pay. I have only owned CJs, since 1981, when I got my drivers license. Never wanted anything else! When we are done with your fix, If you leave your Email, I can send you many pics of mechanical modifications I have done! I know 99.5 % CJs, and help with other issues than this one, just keep replying. OK YOURS in some sorta order what, I would do: Does gauge needle lay on ZERO or close, when off? Giving me 1/2 3/4 5/8 or Clock directions and/ or temp. reading when "hot" (so I will know where you are on the "C"---"H" Gauge....Is this a factory electric gauge (speedo) or an add-on mechanical you have (I run both)? Does temp rise to what temp, for seconds, then drop a little and settle in? (without heater on) What degree thermostat are you using? Do you have a "bra" or bug screen on your slats? Has your radiator been "professionally flushed and rodded"? ( not driveway flushed ) What about Mr. Cooling Fan Clutch? Got one? Or is it 1:1 with the waterpump pulley, using a spacer?....Take him off, and to Autozone or Advance Auto, let the experienced employee, see if it is good.(clutch) Factory fan or aftermarket? Do you have a fan shroud? Is insect kingdom, stuck in the fins of your radiator? Reply, I will Elaborate w/ your answers. I give, in depth, personal answers. Love Turddog "MR. JEEP"
