OIL SMELLS LIKE GAS

1988 Jeep Cherokee, 6 cyl. 4.0 200,000 miles.
Overheated on a cold day. I replaced thermostat now it cycles about once every couple of minutes, and the oil smell like gas.

sounds like a head gasket is broke. try to get a compression test done but pull all the spark plugs out so if air can escape from the other cylinders.

That is my thought too..however it doesn't show the other symptoms of a blown head gasket
