I have a 1991 Jeep Cherokee Laredo 178,000 miles 4.0 liter 6 cycl

I have had two fuel pumps replaced over the years I have had this Jeep. I am the original owner. I have been told that these pumps are always noisy, but this last pump is driving my passengers nuts.

My neighbor told me that I could disconnect this intank fuel pump and put an inline pump in outside the tank. Is this correct? If so, where would I get a fuel pump of this kind and what PSI do I need to match the intank pump?

Second question: My steering wheel is wabbly in the column. The bolts keeping this unit tight have come lose again. I had this done twice by professional mechanics, but apparently they have not done a permanent job. I drove this Jeep for nearly 10 years before this problem started and now I do not know what to do. Is this something I can repair myself without having to shell out another $100 bucks?

Thank you for any help you may provide.

Don't think you can use an external pump, unless you can remove the in tank unit and install a pickup in the tank. As for the column use red locktite when you retighten the screws!
