i have a 1995 jeep grand cherokee laredo with appro 179.000 miles...recently i have noticed a noise when shifting from park to drive...drive to reverse..it is a "clanking" noise..upon investigation...when vehicle is in neutral...i have considerable "play" in the drive shaft...i have noted in previous vehicles that i have owned that changing the u-joints corrected similiar problems...i am concerned that this may go deeper than that....i do not notice the play particularly coming from the u-joint itself...it appears that it is coming from the yoke at the rear end....what am i up against....thanks for your help....

U joints have a 0 tollerance for lateral play. Replace the U joints 1st and then get back to me. If a U joint fails and the shaft drops you will be in deep kimshi!
