I am driving a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with 85,000 miles - not sure how many liters.

My question is:

My car (the steering wheel) shakes when I slow down from 55 or more mph. It shakes around 40 mph then quits. I have been told it may be the brake pads and the rotors should be turned. The dealer tells me that maybe the rotors will have to be replaced. How is this determined and h ow can I tell by looking at the rotors whether or not they will have to be replaced?

a lot of jeeps have composite rotors, which means, you need special adapters to turn them so they won't chatter. still then, it's better to just replace them. if it vibrates on braking then replace them. hope this helps
