1999 Grand Cherokee Limited V8-84,000 miles
Lately after the car has been driven and the engine is warm if you shift into park and let the engine idle, the RMPs shift between 1000 and 2000 as if you had you foot on the gas reving the engine. Had it to the dealership of course they couldn't find anything and it didn't act up. It just had a major tune up in August. Should I tell them to clean the throttle body? Please help at my wits end

Performing an air induction service that includes cleaning the throttle body and intake valves would be good, but may not resolve the problem. It needs to be troubleshot when the problem is happening.

There are good independent shops that can help and would be glad to help you find one in your area if you like.

I took it to an independant shop as suggested. They hooked it up to the computer scanner and watched for a while. The Throttle postion sensor was all over the place. He tapped on the sensor and the RMP's reved as if he was inside on the gas. He fixed it and problem solved.

Called the dealership back who had my car for a day and 1/2, told them what they found. Of course this was covered under the warrenty. The dealership is reimbursing me for what I spent to have it fixed. :D

A shop is only as good as it's employees. Once you find one, stick with em!

Glad to hear it ended well.

My feeling is that the dealership didn't have the time and didn't want to take the time to properly diagnose the problem. Where as the smaller guys want/need the business so they are willing to go the extra mile.

The only reason why I took it to the dealership is because of the Chrysler warrenty, it has to be done at a Chrysler dealership.

Thanks for the help

Seems to me bye-bye for the dealer and welcome to the little guys. Like Mr. ServiceWriter said, A shop is only as good as it's employees
