Six cylinder four wheel drive automatic 69,000 miles.

I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee that is a Rocky Mountain Edition. My interior lights come on when I open the doors which is normal, but they do not go off. I have to switch them to off on the steering column or it would drain my battery overnight. I briefly experienced this a couple of times a few weeks ago, but now it seems to be permanent.
I do not know if this is a correlation, but the driver side power window and lock control stopped working at the same time the lights problem started. The power windows do not work on any door. The power locks work on the passenger side door.
When I insert my key into the ignition there is a ding (much like when the key is in the ignition and the door is open) that is dinging even with the door closed. The dinging only happens when the key is in the off position. All of the doors are closed as is the rear hatch.

A lot of information, but I wanted to be as thorough as possible. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I am having the exact same problem on my wife's 2004 Grand Cherokee. Started last night, we have checked everything over. Let me know if you find the answer because I need to get this fixed ASAP. Got to go out of town here soon. Thanks.

Please tell me what you found out! I would love to know.
Mine is doing the same thing and has been for several weeks. One small break for about a week, but now, the same thing.
So irritating!

Seems to be common on the 2004 Cherokee. The black wire (ground) from the drivers door is broken inside the rubber boot between the door and the frame.

Can anyone tell me what to tell the dealership about where I think they should look first? I am having the same problem with the interior lights staying on, the doors not working and the windows not opening, Ironically, the sunroom works though. So strange.

There is a broken wire in the wire bundle that goes from the driver's door to the fuse area. Pull the rubber housing away from the door using pliers or screw driver. Others found a black wire broken. I had an orange/white wire broken. Bought a male and a female wire clip at hardware store (14 guage I think) and attached each to one end of the break. Then pushed the two ends together and everythin worked

This website is so great! Yes, the broken wire did the trick, unfortunately I had to pay for this repair $205.00 at the dealership.
At least I knew what to expect. Thank you for your post!

Six cylinder two wheel drive automatic 84,000 miles.

My interior lights stay on all the time. Also my screen shows my drivers side door is open. also, when i use my key-less entry device it locks and unlocks every door except the driver's door.

Six cylinder four wheel drive automatic 100,000 miles.

My dome light will not turn off and the power windows will not work. The vehicle acts as if the driver side door is open even when it is not open. I have checked all of the fuses and everything looks fine. I will donate later but right now I am on an unsecured connection and do not want my credit card info at risk. Thanks.

What I need you to do is remove the door panel and check to see if the wiring is okay. It sounds like power to the main window switch is powering the door switch.

Let me know what you find.

I have the vehicle listed above it has the 4.0 engine. The interior lights just started staying on. I have disconnected all door jamb switches, cargo switch and headlight/dimmer switch and lights stay on. I have traced the wires back to the fuse/junction box on the drivers side. (it is a right hand drive) . Was wondering if there is a delay module for the dome lights and where would it be located at? And if not, what/where should I look next? Right now I have pulled the bulbs so as not to drain my battery.

I do not see one but it does have a cargo lamp switch and a lift-gate switch. It is triggered by ground so a short to ground anywhere will to that.

I have traced the wires from both lights back to junction box and did a continuity test on them. The wires are not shorted anywhere I can find. Is it possible that the junction box is bad?

That really depends on whether you have a regular Cherokee or a Grand Cherokee. I am seeing entirely different wiring diagrams. On the regular Cherokee it is not possible because the junction box merely supplies power and you have a problem on the ground side, but if you have a Grand Cherokee, the junction box is the body control module and that has a lot to do with the lighting.

Then no, the junction box is only a power supply according to Alldata.

Unplug all the switches and see if the wire still shows ground. If it does, something is still grounding in the circuit somewhere.

I have a Grand Cherokee. just today the dome light will not go off. The doors are all closed and the switch has to be all the way off to turn the light off. Then I have no dash lights. The light stays on all the time even when driving. The buttons will not turn them off. Also my key-less remotes no longer are locking or unlocking. Batteries are new. Could it be some fuse? Is it a short?
Thanks

When your replace batteries in a key-less remote entry button most of the time you need to re key itself for your car. most of time you either hold down the lock and unlock for a few sec until the headlights flash or something similar. Check the inside of the key-less remote entry for instructions or check your owner's manual. As for the light, it could be a short wire.

Grand Cherokee, 112,000 miles V6 engine. This just started last night, someone found my interior lights were still on, I checked the car and found that the alarm light was not on (red light was not blinking on dashboard after car was locked). So, I figured that a door probably cracked. Funny thing is, only two doors were used before this happened, two front doors. I checked all doors three times, and light was still on, alarm was off. It had also been raining for a few days, do not know if that is pertinent or not. So, I unplugged the battery when the car was parked. It is becoming a hassle already to keep doing this. Is there a simple fix, like checking the door's sensor to make sure it is closed all the way?

More than likely it is the contact switch at the drivers door.

Had this problem early Sunday Morning. My interior lights would not go off when exiting the vehicle and locking the door. the strange thing is if I go in from the passenger side and put my key in ( I just turn the accessories on and then take the key out) then close the passenger door and lock the door and then they go out.

Hello,

It sounds like you have a drivers door latch that is our. What happens is the micro switch inside the latch goes out. Here are diagrams to help you change it out:

LATCH

REMOVAL
1. Remove glass run channel.
2. Remove screws attaching door latch to door (Fig. 10).
3. Disconnect all rods from door latch.
4. Disconnect wire harness connector.
5. Separate door latch from door.

INSTALLATION
1. Position door latch at door.
2. Connect wire harness connector.
3. Connect all rods to door latch.
4. Install screws attaching door latch to door and tighten to 11 N.m (8 ft. lbs.). (Fig. 10)
5. Install glass run channel.
6. Adjust the latch.

Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what happens.

Cheers, Ken
