I just hit 65,000 on my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee and my check engine light came on. I haven't noticed anything different about how it drives but I was wondering if there is something that I need to have done at that certain mileage. I am going to take it to Advanced Auto Parts tomorrow to use the scanner that they have and maybe that will turn up some answers. Thanks.

When cranking PCM look for signals from the sensors to identify where is each cylinder and to fire
so if a signal is missing or interrupted check engine light will come on to let the driver know that there is a problem
in your case the cam sensor is the trouble area
I would start by checking it and its plug and wire
(replace cam sensor )

Just wondering about the check engine light error message that keeps turning itself on and off in my 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee (70,000 miles/AWD). I can drive the jeep periodically for days without the light coming on, then it will all of a sudden come on. The engine gets sluggish when it does come on, not wanting to accelerate too quickly, but seems normal at higher speeds. Then the error message will stay on for a couple of days, then shut itself off like it turned itself on in the first place. Is this an ECM problem? Anything to do with the A/C? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Derek Parkes

you need to have the jeep plugged in to see what the error code is on the computer.

Possibly a oxygen sensor but you probably need to have it scanned. Autozone still does OBD II scans.

Malfunction Indicator Light

The light came on the other day. Now when i come to a stop the transmission feels like it shifts. when i go to accelorate it feels like it is in the wrong gear. i have mannally changed the the gear to first and second but nothing happens. When i get up to speed the transmission switches fine. it feels like it is not starting off in the right gear. also after it sits over night i can start it and put it in drive and it works fine for 2 mins.

the code is P1762. Has something to do with the computer that controls the shifting in an automatic transmisson. Where is this part located? Is this a big problem to fix? thanks.

Governor Pressure sensor voltage too low is the problem

chances are either the solenoid or the transducer has failed and will need replacement.

take off the transmission oil pan, locate the valve body, front of transmission on passanger side.
dependent on model you may have to unbolt the housing for the solenoid and transducer.

Electrical problem
2004 Jeep Cherokee 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic 122+ miles
----------------------------------------------------------------
My check engine light came on. I put new fuel injection system in. Light still on, replaced all (4) O2 sensors, light came back on, Replaced the smart sensor that blew(the one that's not suppoesed to blow), light came back. replaced the electical harness the light came back on. Had the catalytic converter checked it is fine. The engine started stalling when I went to give it gas. Service center explained that that was no heating shield over the engine manifold causing the wires in the electrical harness to constantly get fried. Had the harness repaired and had wires installed to protect against heat and had a heating shield installed at the engine maniflod. Truck was running fine for a week THEN engine light comes on again. What is going on before I put it in the Patomac?

First thing you need to do is have the codes read, Autozone does it free, Post the results with the code number(s). Even if the service engine light is not on, there should be freeze frame data stored.
If it won't make it to Autozone, buy a cheap scanner, they can be had for 30-40 dollars, a good investment, since they cover all cars sold in the USA from 96 on...
If the light is blinking, it means possible damage to the converter...service it right away!
Don't spend any more cash until you get the codes!
