I was driving my car for well over 15 minutes and noticed this harsh smell. I focused in on the hood and saw that there was some smoke coming from the front. I opened the hood and saw that the smoke was concentrated towards the fan/radiator area. Another point to note is that my gauge on my dash DID NOT indicate any over heating. Also I checked for any leaks of liquid once the vehicle cooled down and still there was nothing... Has anyone encountered this type of problem or might have an idea as to what it is??

See my profile......I do not know your rig, I can give a general diagnosis.

Check all of your fluids insure they are good OR NOTE what may be low.....could be your problem, hose etc.

Turn on your A/C.....Does it cool?.....Could something have punctured your CONDENSOR?....The radiator looking thing, in front of your radiatior?

Respond?

Medic,

My A/C hasn't been working for a few months now. The compressor and a/c clutch went bad so it was too much to fix and not worth it. my fluids seemed fine and I didn't see any liquid on the ground.

Did you lose all of the gas when the compressor went bad?

Look on Fan, Engine, condensor and the radiator for "A/C OIL", probably a mist....if it was compromised. (inner side, mostly)

If you think your gas was still in there, remove the "Low or High Side" Fill Cap (lack of correct term) Push the "Valve Stem Core" to see if there is any pressure in the system.

I'll continue to find you a culprit.....I do not know your rig.....just general stuff common on all rigs.

Trade that puppy in for a CJ......I can help you Big-Time then!

Your Turn

I do not know if you will return or not.......getting late Eastern Time

If you can start it with no problems......Just to EASE YOUR MIND.....inexpensively

To MAYBE VERIFY the A/C THEORY,

Buy 1 can of FREON

Take it to Either a Local (SMALL TIME OPERATION) 1st) a auto salvage yard----2nd) mechanic

Explain what you think it may be, but want to verify----they may inject your can for FREE.......Be near the radiator so you can hear it leak out

They may also give you a DIAGNOSIS.....if I was wrong.

Either way please tell me your findings

Turns out something hit my radiator and caused a minor leak. It seems like it is very minor because I can not see any liquid leaking and the coolant level is still at full... I wonder if I can drive it and just add fluid to it until I find the right mechanic that isn't going to cost me an arm and a leg!

Seeing how they deal with these people daily, The Salvage yard guys can recommend a reputable, inexpensive, local mechanic. Ask them who they would send their Mother to!

Hit the parts store for some "Stop Leak" ask the mature, been around awhile employee for a recommendation of who's brand.

I have had good luck with "Bars"---It looks like glitter suspended in water. Do what is says...especially the "Drive Time"...I always exceed their minimum.

Let me know how you fare,
