2001 Jeep Cherokee rear axle

When making sharp left turns, the rear axle seems to lock up and be drug around the turn. Is this normal? Does this vehicle have any type of limited slip or posi-drive rear axle?

Sounds like it does. If it were my truck i would pull the pan and look. If you do have a posi you need to add friction modifier when you refill. you might change the fluid in the transfer case with the specified fluid as well.
