2000 Jeep Cherokee key wont release

When I turn the car off, and place the transmission in park, my key will not release from the ignition. I can turn the car on and off but not pull the key out. Is there a cable adjustment or something I can do to fix this.

Is tekey actually turning to the off position or is it stuck before then?

the key will not release even though I turn the switch and car to off. it will not pull out as is normal for all cars placed in park.

If the key is off and still won't come out, it sounds like the tumbler is bad. I hate to say it, but chances are it will need replaced.
