I took my '98 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.9 Limited in for a check-up, and sure enough, the over-heating issue was much more serious than I thought.

The engine is filling with Anti-Freeze and is actually burning it, because the Head Gasket is gone. (Hence, the nasty smelling white smoke coming out the exsaust).

I was offered to get it replaced with a 65,000 Mile engine, (Mine has only 97,000), for $2,200. (With 3 Month Warrenty.)

My question; Is $2,200 a good price for this engine job?

Hi:
Is there a reason they don't want to ffix yours? Yes 2200 is a good price for the engine and labor, but it should be much less to fix yous.

Thank you so much for your response. Now, on to your question.

The reason he suggested to just replace the whole engine is because; not only is the Head Gasket gone, but there's anti-Freeze in the engine, the oil pressure drops, my engine over-heats, and the Cylinders, I believe, are really damaged!

When I drive it, there's no power behind the engine, and there is this HUGE clanking around sound as if there are nuts and bolts loose in there.

He said if he just replaced the Head Gasket and one of those Cylinders, it would cost $1,600... and much more if there are more Cylinders, or even Pistons damaged!

I have heard the same from others, that I'd be better off replacing an "uncared for" engine. The guy who owned it first, never gave it tune-ups.

Ok, now I have a better understanding. I agree then and yes if the price he quoted is both parts and labor, is sound good. I didn't realize you had engine noise and the other concerns.

Let me know how it works out for you. Also, make sure to get some type of warranty.
