Transmission problem

I am trying to locate a neutral safety switch for my 1998 Jeep Cherokee Sport 4x4 6cy 4spd. It seems to be hard to find. I cannot start my Jeep without pushing the gear selector forward while it's in park. Otherwise, it does not start. Diagnostics shows that when it is in "park" it is in "drive", when it is in "reverse" it shows it is in "drive" and so on. Mechanics here in Springfield, OH cannot seem to locate what I need.
