Has 168,000 miles on a6 cylinder engine. The oil levels are good,but a loud tapping is coming out of the top of the engine. Is there any test to find out if the engine has to be replaced or if it might be repairable. Hate to pay for whole engine if they will take it and repalce just a part and it will be o.k. . Thanks for any advice,I just want to be informed before a mechanic looks at the vechicle.
