I Just purchased a Jeep Cherokee Country yesterday, and noticed tonight that the lighting is all out of whack! The instument cluster will only come on if you pull out the headlight knob a hair. If you pull it all the way out it will not turn on. So either I have headlights and no dash lights, or dashlights and no headlights....but not both at the same time! And when the headlights ARE turned on, it is only the front headlights that come on, and not the rear lights, though the brake lights work. So to a person following you at night, they may not notice you unless you apply the brakes! I checked the fuses, and they are fine. Both of these situations bother me as the main reason I got it was to get a safe winter vehicle for my fiance who is expecting. Any ideas or advice would be appreciated!

Hello !!
Everything its pointing to the master light switch...

The contacts are bad inside the switch...
anyhow i will pull out an electrical schematic for you and we will follow the troubleshooting..

Question: do you have a trailer tow?

I`ll be back with the diagram.

Thanks for the prompt reply! I do not however have any idea where to begin with reading electrical schematics. Also I do have a trailer tow. Can you help with leading me through the diagram as you offered? You think odds are it'll be the switch? Thanks again!

By the way...I tried the "leave feedback" and it would not let me do it because I have no points. Any positive amount I put would give me a message that told me that I couldn't give away more points than I had!

Hello !!
Do not worry about the points, and yes, i can help you with the electrical schematics, this afternoon i will pull out the schematic with trailer tow and we will start following wires.

(I`m working right now and the Mitchell1 its on my laptop)
probably the park lights problem its not related with the switch could be a bad connection in the back..

I will review the schematic and I will let you Know.

Best Regards !

Hello !!

I`m back!

well, we`re going to start checking the tow connector, get a Light tester (12 volts) and check the brown wire (#3 second from the left) that`s the (+) to the tail lights brown wire...

if you have light there then the switch its sending the signal to the back and the problem should be .. a missing ground (-) Black wire or bad light bulbs..
check that to start and let me know..

i`ll send you an schematic with a trailer tow to your Email at full scale that way we can follow each other.
