1996 Jeep Cherokee backfires thru air intake

Has the check engine light me on?

no its not and its getting worse also it has air in the lines when i push the valve i dont know what its called air comes out then gas then it cranks again

Can you take a picture of the valve you are refering to and where the air then gas is coming out? I'm not exactly sure what part you are refering to. Also, if the check engine light hasn't come on, chances are it is fuel related.

Thanks for the info but we finially got it running right it was the fuel pump and a bare wire coming off of the coil and a wire someonr put in the starter relay box. its running great now we bought a book and its amazing how much it helped us it was worth the 26.00 for a repair manuel
