2001 Jaguar XK8 rear wheel bearings

how do I know if I need to change the rear wheel bearings or bushings. If I jack the car up and hold the wheel at 12 and 6 oclock, rock it back and forth I have a small play.

Small amount of play is normal. Excessive play then you have an issue. This is not a job you will want to attempt. It is a major PITA and requires special tools.
