Checking Trans Fluid Level

I have a 2001 S Type, V6. I drained the oil in the transmission and refilled it. What is the proper procedure for refilling and checking the level on this vehicle. Also, if I overfill the transmission does it have a relief valve that will automatically spit some fluid out or do I have to drain it out again?
