1994 Jaguar XJS Stranded in Albuquerque

I've just started a 2500 mile drive and after the first 250, the check engine light came on. It was at 4,000 ft elevation, not overly hot, all guages fine (oil and temp). I'm concerned about driving another 450 miles (Oklahoma City is the next city with a jag dealership). Is it safe to continue or should I wait out the weekend and have the dealership in Albuquerque check it out. The last 200 miles, I stopped often, kept the a/c off and the engine light would not go out (kept the car around 2200 rpm). I have no sense of smell so can't tell if the exhaust is bad or not.

Has this car been driven at this altitude before? If you have good oil pressure and nothing seems adverse with its running condition then you are probably good to go. Most likely the ECU logged an error because of MAP or mixture; probably because of altitude adjustments.

It's done this drive (Buffalo to Phoenix) twice a year for the last 10 years and have never had this before . I've been lax getting a tune up..last one was 18 months ago but all fluids changed after each 2500 mile trip and did a rad flush a year ago. Thanks for answering so quickly. I hate paying extra hotel in the same city (and I like the Oklahoma dealership far more than the Albuquerque one - have visited both several times for other issues on these cross country treks.)

Try an Autozone tomorrow in Albuquerque and have them check out that code. It dosent run abnormally in any way correct?

Never had any engine issues. rpm's always reliable and temp always predictable. Only thing that's a PIA is the a/c ... sometimes works, sometimes doesn't and spent a fortune and it's still acting the same. Figures it decided not to work in Phoenix at 110 degrees but did in Flagstaff where it was 75. ;-) I'll take it in - hopefully they have someone available on Sunday. Many thanks!!!
