1990 Jaguar XJS no oil pressure

To get oil pan off in car need to remove front suspension unit. Try installing mechanical oil guage to verfiy pressure. Did banjo fitting on rear of head and oil lines removed and cleaned? how long did car operate with water in oil?

Yes, we did install a mechanical oil guage, but there was no oil pressure. Last night we thought there might be some thing wrong while installing the cylinder head and decided to remove the oil pan next morning.


This morning we disconnected any connection upper part of surrounding the engine and removed the valve cover. We found a piece of clothe attaching the chains like we thought last night. We cranked the engine by hand trying to do the cleaning upper part.

Lowering the subframe like front suspension unit was carried. The oil pan was able to remove and is cleaned just now. Yes the left small piece of clothe made the cause, not the overheating causing water to into the oil pan. Next time there should be a big piece of clothe, not some many small pieces of clothe to cover the chains while removing and installing the cylinder head.

We were so lucky to notice the problem happen just 20 minutes after first time we finished the work and run the engine on.

So a shop rag was left in engine??

Yes, your are right. A VERY SMALL BLACK PIECE OF SHOP RAG WAS LEFT BETWEEN THE LOW PART OF UPPER CHAIN AND THE RIGHT WALL OF CHAIN COVER.

We did check if there was any shop rag left, but we missed one.

Yesterday evening we managed to finish the work. Finally the engine worked fine.

That is amazing I would frame that piece of cloth. In my 50 yrs. of wrenching never saw this. Had a left shop rag drop on exhaust header and set a XJS on fire.
