Hello,

There is a body module that runs the system its behind the glove box I would remove the wiring connectors and check for corrosion which will cause the issue. Also there are many fuses that need to be checked as well here is guide to help you test the fuses and the wiring diagrams so you can see how the system works and the fuse locations.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-a-car-fuse

The fuses are all over the place so I gave you all the fuse panel locations and identifications.

Check out the diagrams (Below). Let us know what happens and please upload pictures or videos of the problem.

Cheers

I am working on a 01 XJ8 (4.0L Engine) where the tail lights are not working. The bulbs were replaced previously, and after ensuring they were installed properly, checked and found no power to the tail lights. All the other bulbs on both the left and right side boards work fine. All the rest of the lights on the vehicle work fine, too. We checked all the fuses, and looked for information if there was any relay that was responsible for the tail lights, and found nothing. A buddy of mine suggested the Body Processing Module, and another friend has a car lot that we were able to swap one out, and still nothing on the tail lights. We are at a loss, and you are my last hope before the dealer (cringe). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Daigo3d,

It does look like there is a relay in the system, here is a wiring diagram to help you find it.

Please let us know happens so it will help others.

Best, Ken

I have a 1998 XJ8L 95,000 mi. The taillights stopped working as well as the plate light. All other lights work. Bulbs, fuses, relays all work. But...this morning when coming into work in very rainy weather my taillight worked for a moment but my brake lights didn't. Help???

That has a controller that powers those light circuits, it sounds like it may have a problem.
