I CAN'T OPEN THE TRUNK OF MY XJ6 PLEASE

This is a good one. I had to look at my own trunk latch to get an idea. First, everything in your car has a fuse, but doesn't sound like your problem. It sounds like the old coat hanger trick may have pulled the linkage rod off between the manual release and the latch. The only thing I can think of is; If you look in under the center of bottom lip of the trunk lid below the license plate and behind the weather stripping you will see the trunk latch. In the middle of the latch is a small phillips head screw. this screw holds the dust cover on. Remove this screw and push the plastic cover down out of the way. On the upper right side of the latch you will see a lever. with a small screw driver, push the lever up or to the left. This should release the latch. Hope it works. James

My key won't open then trunk and the other switch won't open it either

More than likely the connecting rod from the lock to the latch came off. The only thing you can do is remove the rear seats and crawl through and unlatch it by hand. Remove the seat pad first. There is usually a bolt in the middle at the back of the pad. If the seats fold down you don't even need to do that if you can fit through. If not the upper seats have to have plastic trim pieces pulled out to get to the bolts that hold them in.

The car is in the garage but we cannot get in the trunk to get the battery charged.

No, but there should be a key hole somewhere.

Is there a way to charge my Jag under the Bonnet of my XJ6, my battery is in the trunk. My remote won't work, I've tried to get in thru the emergency way with the screw driver like once before. Is there a way to pry it , the trunk open to get into it. Triple A did not know either. Yes I replaced the batteries for my remote to the car locks, but still can't get the trunk lid to open. Locksmith maybe? Please any advise. 1997 XJ6 Jag, there is also a valet button in the console area, nothing is working. Thank You

Defiantly call a locksmyth or you will do more damage than good trying get it open yourself. Just a sugestion. OR, If your battery is completely dead, then the reciever on your remote is not getting the signal. Somewhere on the fire wall, under the hood should be large terminal with 2 or 3 heavy "RED or BROWN" wires attached to it. This would be the battery voltage positive junction. You should be able to connect the positive "RED" clamp of a charger to this terminal and the negative clamp "BLACK" to the frame of the vehicle and back charge the battery assuming the battery is good. I would suggest you talk to someone who is familiar with charging systems before you attempt this. Doing it wrong could be a baaaaaad deal. Hope this helps. Jim at [email protected]

cars module controlling the wipers,the signals was replaced,battery replaced,trunk entered by drilling hole behind licence plate to open trunk,the key opened trunk for a few days,all done at jaguar service.
starter replaced by another shop recently.

i had the same problem on 04' X-type (key would work or Remote - could not use bot at same time. How i fixed is resetting the timing on the linkage rods.
1. roll down the window.
2. manually try to lock door from the inside while standing on out side of car. They insert your current working key and turn back and forth makeing sure both mechanical devices work in sequience.
3. then try using your keyless remonte.

(occasionally with someone goes to my car to open "other than me" they will use the key and only turn half way) this puts the linkage in a bind for when you try to use the remonte.

Try this and see if this help. I would use either key or remote - if possible.

Do you hear any clicking or clunking noises when activating the buttons on the remote? If not, check the fuse and the relay. If so, it could be as jaguar_jay mentions.

I'm having a problem opening my trunk.
Right now, the battery is dead in the car (the battery is in the trunk) and the trunk is locked. I can't unlock the trunk with the key because manually turning the key for some reason will NOT unlock it (it turns in the hole, but will still not unlock). There is no button to press to open the trunk. I have tried removing the back seats, however, they are bolted in, and i could only remove the bottom of the seats. If you no anyway I can get into this trunk, its important!, even if it includes taking out the seats (WITH GOOD INSTRUCTIONS!..I'm no mechanic ..)

Please Help. My car key is stuck in the trunk where you put the key. It is not frozen but will not turn. It is the only key I have am in need of retrieving it so I can drive my car. Is there anything I can spray at the opening? I am a Senior woman and need help Thanking you in advance

i have a 1996 xj6 with 129,000 miles.for some reason i cant get in my trunk.i brought the car from an elderly couple a few months ago.when i use the key to enter the trunk it does not work,also when i press the button it does not work.what could be my problem?

some vehicles have a valet key system so personal items can be locked in trunk so valet can move vehicle but don't have access to trunk. If this is the case you might have valet key not master any good auto locksmith should be able to sort you out or even jag dealer should hold records

yungmollah, it is true that many Jags do have a valet key. The valet key works for only the ignition and drivers door. On my 93 jag the valet key is green instead of black. I have run into a similar problem on my jag. The key turns but not entirely and therefore the trunk does not open with the key. I was told by a mechanic that this is because the tumblers are loose or dislodged. A locksmith should be able to fix that. However, you mentioned that the button from the glovebox does not work either. That sounds like a mechanical issue with the locking mechanism. A good locksmith should be able to handle that as well.
