Hello:

I had a battery positive cable that shorted up to the alternator. It in part fried the alternator to the point where it read at half output.

I am replacing the alternator, and trying to replace the postive cable all the way up to the battery. I went to pull the old cable and discovered a "link" right near the bulkhead. The questions are:

A) How do I get this thing out of here (the wire) to replace it?

B) Can I run the cable straight from the battery to the alternator or is that a solenoid that the two are linked at?

Please advise!

Ok

I removed the second half of the wire from the (solenoid?) to the alternator. I replaced everything to the proper spots and got my battery hooked back up. (No interior lights, nothing.)

When I tested the battery it read 6.5 before securing the terminals. With the terminals secured it read at 1.5. I have the battery on a deep cycle charger for the night, but should this happen? The battery is brand new.
