2003 Jaguar X-type, all wheel drive with roughly 54,0000 miles. We were driving the car into the mountains and took it on a side road (off roading type road) toward our campsite. Came to a hill the car had trouble getting up. It produced a puff of white smoke, which I think came from the front, but since the car also rolled back down the hill I'm not sure. We did make it up the hill after two tries. Since yesterday, when we drove it up the hill, there is a smell, which comes and goes, of burnt brake fluid, but no more smoke. When braking, and not downshifting, there is no smell. There hasn't been any smoke since. The coolant levels haven't changed. We have driven it over 100 miles since the hill. Could it be that the clutch glazed over? Could it be anything major, or which we shouldn't drive the car?
