Engine Cooling problem
2002 Jaguar X-Type 6 cyl 101000 miles
My car is overheating and smoking. First I took it to an auto shop, they said I need to replace the antifree reservoir. They replace, but driving it home, I notice it's still overheating and smoking. I took it back to the shop, now they telling me I need to replace the thermostat, the radiotor, water pump, and the head gasket is blown. They told me it would cost me 2k for parts and labors. When I replace the antifree reservoir, they charged me $190 for the part alone. Now I'm looking for the parts, I saw the same part for $117. They were going to charge me $85 for the thermostat, but found it only for $31. Is it smarter to try to get the parts myself and just pay for the labor? Do I really need to replace all these things just to fix my overheating and smoking problem?
