I have been told that in this car, when I replace the pads I MUST also replace the rotors. Is this true?

That's rubbish as long as rotor is not scored , wareped or thinner than tolerence then it is servicable.

There is a ver small 'lip' on the outer edge of the rotor that needs to be removed but I cant imagine that normal turning of the rotors wouldnt correct that. The rotors look fine otherwise. This will be the first replacement of the pads and they are also in good shape, but beginning to get thin.

Thanks...

That lip is very common with the use of semi-metalic pads should be enough rotor to cut smooth. Maybe next time not
