2004 Jaguar S-Type Turbine Speed Sensor

The mechanic says the turbine speed sensor was shorted out when an alarm installer drilled into the wiring harness at the upper left side of the firewall.

He says that the transmission must be completely disassembled in order to replace the speed sensor at a cost of over $7,000.00.

Is this true?

Turbine speed sensor is inside the transmission ,, I would get a second opinion before spending this amount of money ?
