My husband is fascinated with my car paddles and he switches to them very occasionally. I’ve never messed with them and don’t really see the point. Saturday, during a cruise night, he switched to them and floored it to show off with the other kids. I made him stop so he switched back. Then at the next light, steam (I initially thought it was smoke) surrounded us. The engine overheating light was on. So we pulled off and called AAA. I want to know if he caused this. He just cost me a new transmission in his truck by towing uphill with overdrive on. Now I realize he doesn’t quite know what he thinks he does about cars!

Hello,

This is usually caused just by age and normal wear and tear. Over time, because the radiator, especially the upper one, has hot coolant in it at all times and the rubber degrades from heat. Now, weather or not your husband finished it off or not is up to you guys to figure out, but burst upper radiator hoses are not uncommon.

Thanks,
Alex
