I have a soverigen xj40, this morning I tried to start her after using her the following day and she would not start. She turns over ok but wont start up. She is not flooded and the battery is ok, the plugs also spark, so Im somewhat confused. Could it be the ECu or something else more sinister. Any help on this problem would be greatly appreciated.

You must determine if your engine will not start because of lack of fuel or lack of spark. If fuel is the problem, check the fuel pump, pressure etc. If no spark, check the coil, distributor, 12 volts to the coil, etc.

Hope this helps, Bob

I'm interested if someone has any other advice on why a car will not fire.. I have the same problem, lots of fuel and spark, turns over great but will not fire. This is an older 1980 grand prix of my son's.

Hello mbuchhloz
It may not be of any help but, I managed to get my xj40 engine turning over and firing by clamping the fuel line a few times. :D[i:6324a61e32][color=darkblue:6324a61e32][/color:6324a61e32][/i:6324a61e32]

on the grand prix replace the ignition control module this should fix your problem.

Take the dizzy cap off and check the contacts and rota for burning, if so replace and she should fire up.

Also take time to check battery conects a losse neg tern connection can cause the car not to start also.
