Truck would not turn over. rapid clicks, that's all.
Cleaned terminals and posts.
Still nothing.
Had it towed.
Repairman said one wire was corroded, and replaced.
Terminal was reconnected, whereupon the starter started spinning, without the key in the ignition!
He has no explanation for it.
Any ideas?

Hi Crazdog1. Welcome to the forum. Suspect the plunger inside the starter solenoid is stuck between the worn contacts. This is especially common with the little silver Nippendenso starters. Tapping on it will usually not dislodge it. This can happen to almost any brand of starter, but a more common symptom of worn contacts is a single kind of loud clunk from the starter with a failure to spin the engine.

The contacts can be replaced separately, but most people just replace the entire starter. A stuck solenoid could have been the last straw for the corroded wire to finally break apart.
