Gas milage on my trooper went from @20 mpg to @8.I get error code 42. My mechanic told me to check the resistance on the ect sensor but i cannot locate it any ideas thenks Buzzby

Code 42 indicates Electronic Spark Timing (EST) not ECT..ECT is the engine coolant temperature sensor and has nothing to do with fuel. You will need to check for an open or short to ground in the EST circuit.

I am having a few problems with my trooper as well. I am just wondering what kind of diagnostics tool you are using and where you got it. From what I have read, these vehicles are not OBD2 compliant. Suggestions?

The 1993 Trooper uses the OBD I system.
