Tires and Wheels problem

Hi there
I have something going on in the front wheels of my Isuzu trooper.
At first I had a grating sound in the passenger side wheel for about a mile so I did a three point turn to return home when it stopped.
A few days later the driver side wheel started banging when I pulled off. A mechanic came out said it was the hub or the cv joint, he swapped the hub assembly from the driver to the passenger side and visa versa. the banging has stopped for now but is it safe to drive? Also the front tyres have quickly gone bold on the insides and there is a thud when the steering wheel is turned in reverse.
