My 97 Rodeo 4 cyl. runs rough intermittenly and I am told that the distributor cam has problems and are not serviceable and the whole unit has to be replaced. Is this true and is it a difficult repair.

Engine/Ignition/Fuel/Exhaust problems can cause the engine to run rough.

If its the ignition system go get scoped, it will show up if there's a problem with ignition system.

Could be one of the input sensors or an actuator and also the computer
