clutch/transmission noise

I have a 1993 isuzu rodeo with a 3.2L v6 engine (245,000 miles) its a 5 speed transmission. It make a loud wine when it in 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th gear no noise while in 4th gear, between shifts there is no noise. what may be the problem thanks

Hi there,

The problem will lie in the lay shaft bearings of the gear box, 4th gear is 1to1 so the power flow is through the main shaft, the lay shaft is still turning but there is no load on the bearings. 5th gear over drive picks up the rear of the lay shaft so 5th will be noisy as well
