Running a little rough

well....lets do the easy thing 1st.....lets go to auto zone and pull a code for ur chk engine lite b4 anything...email me and back and I'll do a code diagnostic

sounds kind of like a bad O2 sensor rough running and check engine light with MAF and plugs and wires in good condition usually points to that

differences between pros and doiturselfer is pro try the easiest and quickest to nail a problem down....okay...let say maybe it is an O2 sensor...whats next? ... try hang a new 1 there and hopefully it fix the problem?...or else..test it..how ?

relax it was just a thought the same thing happened to my rodeo and it was a bad O2 sensor even if thats not the case here with 97000 miles its never a bad idea to replace it anyway

i disagree...97,000 miles should have no reason to replace an O2 if the vehicle is running properly and mainatin properly..my 96' toyota pu' is 210K miles and I drove thru water pass the top of the tires ..never done no repair...its gotta be either something killing the O2 and wil still contaminate the O2 ..or aint got nuthing to do with the O2...even my 96' impala gm..I look at my tech to to chk my a/c clutch ...even at 165K..my fuel trim and O2 switching still perfect....O2 sensor in this case either it is a result of something going wrong or nuthing to do with nuthing..O2 sensor as a maintainence items is a myth created by parts industries or dealership to sell unnecessary items to public.........

yeah my rodeo has 190K on the clock and 10K of that have been with the "replace o2" light on and no probs until just last week it apparently just burned out or something...might have something to do with rusted as hell exhaust though haha

one more thing about the 2000 rodeo tho...i had a misfire much like the one described above on mine once because the ignition coil for the #4 cylinder shorted out...just another possibility although with a more modern car like that it seems less likely to be the case

I don't like when people post questions with a list of symptoms and one being the check engine light is on, but they have not had it checked....

Get it checked and report back!!

On a second note - a O2 sensor will rarely go bad of it's own accord.

Internal engine problems could cause a sensor to degrade and later fail. External problems (getting hit or rot) could cause the sensor to degrade and later fail. But the sensor does not get "used up" or "worn out" from use. I've read claims that parts manufactors are rigging the after-market sensors to lean the fuel out a bit, something to aid the claims of crazy fuel mileage gains!
