1997 isuzu rodeo 4x4

i need to replace both front axels,all 4 cv joints are bad and i don't want to replace the joints.it is easier to replace the axels. i have the haynes book. i need to know if there is a clip or something holding the axel in the trransfer case. if not will the axel slide out once the wheel assy. is out of the way? i know there is a clip on the wheel end of the axel. OR must i remove the transfer case as well.
