Usually after about 30 minutes of the battery connected the park lights (tail and front orange lights) go on and off randomly and are accompanied by a click under the dash. At the same time the ip goes into nighttime mode. Turning the headlamp switch on or off does nothing, and neither does pulling the park light fuse. Disconnecting the alarm wire to the park lights doesn't stop the issue either. Trailer connection seems okay, looking at what is visible.

Does this truck have an aftermarket alarm system? If so, these go bad all the time. I would remove the alarm and repair the wiring. Here are the wiring diagrams so you can see how the system works, the only thing that can really cause that is the alarm or the hazard switch. Check out the diagrams (below). Please let us know what happens.

Just to give an update, but tonight I could not replicate the issue, switched the vehicle on, let it run, and the issue didn't occur. Slammed the doors, engine on and off, lights on and off... you get the picture. However, the wiring diagram you gave showed that the positive wire from the light switch was brown, and I still had the alarm connected to that one, so I disconnected that one. Maybe disconnecting that one has fixed the issue. The van incidentally is a conversion van with aftermarket alarm and remote start, but isn't driven a lot. So, I'll give you an update on whether the issue is really fixed after the next camping trip, but so far so good...
