instrument panel lighting

This sounds normal but maybe I am misunderstanding. You are leaving the headlight position in position 2 when you shut the ignition off and the light stay on?

If that is the case, do they go off when you turn the switch to the off position?

The headlight switch should turn the lights on and off regardless of ignition position. The only time they should shut off when the ignition is shut off is if there is an auto position which I don't think your vehicle has.

The instrument panel in position 2 stays on even after removing key from ignition. I've waited a few minutes for the instrument panel lighting to go off but it stays on.

Okay. Does it turn off when you switch it back to the off position? If it does, this sounds normal. Maybe get a video of the issue and I can better understand if you don't agree. Thanks

It turns off when switching to the off position. I thought position number 2 would turn off the panel automatically when removing key from ignition. I'm just curious because there are some vehicles that the panel goes on automatically when dark or under a tunnel and go off automatically when removing key from ignition. I guess this make and model doesn't do that.

That is correct. There are vehicles that do that but unfortunately it was not more common until the later 2000's and into 2010. Now most all cars will do that or they have a specific Auto setting.
