Hi Experts,

I just replaced Inner tie rod gaskets at the steering gear.
Used Moog kit # K7408.
I made the mistake of not doing 1 bolt at a time.
When I threaded in left - driver's side bolt I may have cross threaded?
Since the bolt does not go in all the way.
I backed it out and tried again. Underside of bolt still does not seat against plate.
See images.
I tried torquing to 60 ft pounds but my wrench never clicked. It may be bad.
What do you think?

Also, here is before pic of bolts.
Note: the left driver's side area of plate is not seated.
Maybe I am worrying about nothing?

Are you talking about this gap or spacing that I show in the picture? If so, I can only assume that the bushing or spacer is not correct. In other words it is keeping it from pulling tight.

However, the only other thing I can assume is the bolt is stripped. The fact that you never get to 60 foot lbs means it is just spinning and not tightening any longer. So if you are not getting it to tighten then this is most likely the issue .

Yes, that is the space I am talking about. Gasket and spacer are correct type and installed correctly.
Plate is contacting gasket on passenger's side only.
Note, the under side of bolt is touching plate only on 1 side of driver's side bolt.
Like driver's side bolt went in crooked.
I am still getting resistance when tightening both bolts.
Bolts are not just spinning.
It is getting hard to tighten both bolts.
I don't want to strip or break bolts off.
I don't know that I have reached 60 Ft Lbs. As my torque wrench is a POS.
Run a tap through and use removable
Loctite?

Okay, I understand. That is exactly what I would do with the tap and Loctite because the only other solution would be to replace it.

Let us know how it turns out.

I tried to post another question.
But I never received a verification email.
It is steering related.
Can I post it on this question?

We need to try and keep each to one topic and even though this is still in the steering system the title of this post is for the tie rod so others just will not look at this post for a specific steering issue. So let's try one more time to post a new one so that it is specific to that issue and if that doesn't work then we need to get the site admin involved to figure that out for you.

Let me know what happens and we can get this figured out. Thanks
