Replaced all injectors. sounds terrible number 2 isn't getting fire, but all injectors sound bad. testing by unplugging each one seems to test correctly. unplug engine drop all except number 2, but again makes lots of noise. starts easily.

Hello,

Check the spark plug in the number two cylinder. Just because there is no change in the engine when you unplug the number 2 injector, that doesn't mean the injector is bad. It just means that the number two cylinder isn't firing. It could be the spark plug, the Coil on Plug (COP), or the wires going to the COP. Please check these and get back to us with what you are able to find out.

Thanks,
Alex

Also this engine has been redone either parts have been rebuilt or replaced with new including sensors ECT. waiting for storm to pass here in Florida to have hpop rebuilt as well as turbo. right now trying to get engine running half good as in injectors working properly it starts very good it sounds like I'm not getting enough power to injectors. I believe I have forscan with the Ford ob2 plug problem. I need someone to walk me through from the start .this will probably help if you know how to operate the software also have meter to read voltage. I'll need to be walked through as well. electrical is not my specialty once I do it once I'm okay sometimes 786 356 7116 is a contract number. I have huge amount of time and money involved including having the transmission also rebuilt. any possible help is badly needed to get this truck running correctly. thanks, oddczar

Hello again,

Sorry about that. I don't have a lot of experience on diesel vehicle's, so I'm going to pass you on to an expert that does so you can get it fixed correctly. Again, i'm sorry for overlooking that.

Thanks,
Alex

Good afternoon,

Can you do a buzz test with a scan tool to verify the injectors are working?

Did you also verify compression?

Are there any codes stored?

Hello, As an add on. You say this engine was rebuilt, is this the first time it has been run? Were the injectors replaced as part of the rebuild or did you try running it before and found #2 bad and replaced them at that time? Are they OEM or aftermarket parts?
You say they sound bad. Could you possibly shoot a video with you unplugging the #2 and 3 injectors so we could hear the difference? You can post it on this site.
Thank you.

Did the buzz test seem okay, but pulled valve covers off to test when I unplugged each injector the number 2 showed nothing. I did not do compression test and the codes stored are I believe from the past I just got forScan. so I don't have any idea what I'm doing on this type of thing and I'm not what you would call a wiz. I feel I was incompetent on my part not knowing what I'm doing not understand what I'm looking at or understanding. I'm in Florida storm had to stop. this truck starts up quickly sound terrible like injectors can't be they've been rebuilt by a company that has good history possibly not enough voltage? I don't know if you got the other messages from the other person lots of parts were rebuilt or replaced as new on the top side. I'm getting ready to have hpop rebuilt as well as the turbo my main issue is getting engine running where the injectors are all working right then go from there. I have forscan I believe it is a plus if someone can walk me through it. I was told by many it is excellent software but you got to know what your doing just like anything else. thanks for your help thus far. oddczar

Another thought. The pass-through on the valve cover for the wiring, inspect the connectors and make sure there are no loose, damaged or burned pins. The connectors and the gaskets were common issues for misfiring.

Done that. New gaskets bother sides spliced new connection to gasket of course your right even though the gasket is new and the connection is new check were they are spliced. I have a meter there like 6 pin holes. how do I use the meter? like I said not good about electrical, but do have what it takes to test. I can't do it now it's pouring rain here. I work on truck out side. can you send instructions how to use meter I'll check both sides.

I’m with Roy on this one! I would replace the valve cover wiring if it looks bad and definitely do a compression test and write down the results.

Okay, do you know how to do a compression test with forScan software? I don't. I don't have a tool to do it physically and do you know what the voltage to each injector should be? I'll use the volt meter to test each connector to each injector.

Check for battery voltage at the injector connector. Check all 4 and compare. Number 2 is your issue so check all 4 and they should have the same reference voltage.

Not much rain wind coming up think we dodged a bullet.
As for the 7.3 they have some problem with the cam taking out a lobe after rebuild not sure has something to do with aftermarket cams. Without compression test pull vc see if valve opens on that cylinder.

Taking shot in the dark. i didn't do anything on the bottom end other than changing timing cover replacement, new pan gasket on top. I replaced injectors, valve cover gaskets, one wire harness to driver side where it plugs into the new gasket (maybe the problem), new fuel bowl, all sensors radiator, rebuilt transmission, new front end, rebuilt oil cooler, new turbo Marisol. how to store pedestal non evp? I think I removed the smog stuff this is a California truck getting ready to rebuild turbo and hpop. new hpop, oil pressure lines including cross remand injectors. this truck was running great when I decided to rebuild. somewhat I broke the timing cover too tight so I ended up in this journey. I've had the truck since new can't replace it.

This truck starts right up without hesitation just sound like the injectors are very loud compared to before. I can only say it doesn't sound right. I don;t get it. I do have a small oil drip somewhere around hpop and back of turbo, but would it affect injectors?

Oh ya, it's not that I long winded. I believe what would be very helpful is if someone knows how to use the software forscal using a laptop. I have that but I have no idea how to use this software. probably can be very helpful if not no harm it it an idea I have this software.

You need to check the harness as I suggested. Check the highlighted wire to the injector that is effected.

Start there.

Can you upload a video of the truck running?

Used a volt tester came up with 3 volts on each injector driver side 2v on passenger side. I tested at plug where it connects to the injectors. I tried testing in the plug that clips into the gasket only reading I could get was the glow plus which was 12 v until the timer turns off then zero. I made a pin that would slide into the 6 or 7 holes in the plug that connects to the gasket. is there a relay fuse that may have gone bad?

There is no such thing as a relay fuse.

Does this truck run?

Yes, starts up easily sounds like bad injectors. I went to Williams diesel in Ocala they told me to replace injectors. so I have the truck sounds the same runs great, but sounds terrible. like I said I checked today and I have 2 or 3 v on each injector 0 v on number 2. possible relay bad?

That cannot be correct. 2 or 3 volts will not work an injector. You need to retest that voltage.

I want the voltage for the one with the miss as in the diagram I sent you.

When I unplugged number 2 there is no change. when I unplugged the others one by one the engine drops power very noticeable. I used a volt meter and it's reading was 2 or 3 on all. but number two i can only find the instructions how to use a volt meter that you sent me. so I'm lost electrical is not my thing beware.

You may need to take this to someone who can check it for you for the issue.

At least let them diagnose it for you and you can do the repair.
