Indicators not working properly

There should be two positions for the turn signal stalk in each direction. There is a lane change that flashes the lights three times and then off. This is activated by just touching the stalk and gently pushing it to the first stop in either left or right. Then there should be a second position where the lever locks into position either left or right and holds the signal on until you either turn it off or if you make the turn it will self cancel.
If you can lock the turn signal switch in say the left turn position but it still only flashes 3 times it is most likely that you need to replace the multi-function switch.
