Does not start after replacing the Ignition key lock cylinder?

For the past few years, I have been having difficulty turning my key from the lock position to turn on the car. So, I finally replaced it. After buying a replacement ignition key lock cylinder I compared it to the original part, and everything looks good. I followed the steps to properly replace the cylinder and reassemble everything back together. Then I turn the key to "accessory" and "on" position as a test and the car has electrical power. Then I turn the key to start the car, and nothing happens. I hear a slight snapping/clicking noise but after that the car has no power at all. I decided to check the fuse box in the engine bay and the 30 AMP fuse seems fine, but I did not have a test light with me.

My questions are how do I find out what happened with the cylinder and why/how is the replacement affecting the electrical components? Is the key lock mechanism not lining up correctly inside the cylinder and can that cause an electrical issue? Any help would be much appreciated.
