Ignition failure after steering rack fitted?

I have just had work done in my car, steering rack, rear suspension etc., upon collecting my car the mechanic said have you ever noticed issues with your ignition. Which I hadn’t had prior, key goes in fine but most of the time it doesn’t do anything, you have too pull up the steering collum give it a bang down and then it usually works, but is now taking longer and longer before the key actually works and lights come on. The key turns the ignition off/on fine.

Is it a 2.2l petrol, a e60 I think.
