Ignition coil screw hole

The threads of one ignition coil screw hole has broken apart. Need help on:

1. The size of replacement insert to get. I will include some pictures. Is #10-32 same as 1/2-32 size insert? Do you count the recessed area in the thread in counting the thread per inch or whatever it is?

2. I think the DOHC cover is made of hard rubber or plastic. I put two little very small magnets to it and they did not stick. So, can the hole in the DOHC be tapped itself with threads to put in a helicoil. Pretty sure screw cannot be screwed right into that surface of the hole if threads can be put in it right?

3. Please take a quick look at Sky Geek website for Part#: NAS1329A08-75. Can that rivet if right size be used? Hope can push firmly in. I am looking more at EZ-Lock inserts, but nee to know if I can find the right size.

Yeah it is not that. I think it is the kind of file it is and for some reason I could not turn the other pictures into the same kind of file I turned the one into. Did you see the one with the hole on the DOHC and the tape measure?

I definitely need more pictures to see what is going on. you say the coils bolt to the valve cover? what is broken off there?

The coil does bolt down to the cover. The bolt may have gotten over tightened and the threads came apart from the washer like ring that was holding the two side together, and the top frame cracked (seemed made of soft metal like brass). There are some more pictures finally able to download. I just need to get more thread back in the hole to screw the bolt to.

Yes, cannot fix that going to need a used or new valve cover. If you try and glue it or anything else it will just fail. Sorry I could not be more help.

Use a C-Clamp. Fasten it around your coil pack after attaching it to your spark plug. I've had the same problem with the same engine and motor and car. Been using a C-Clamp for a little over 6 months with brand new spark plugs and coil packs working fine. It's a hefty cost to replace all that for one screw hole problem. Also try thread sealant the high temperature, I heard it works as well.

Hi,

Thanks for the info, but I would be concerned that a c-clamp would eventually come loose and potentially cause other issues. For that reason, I would fix it properly.
