First of all, I have a known leak in my A/C line (2) as well as a leak at the expansion valve. Pepboys quoted me over $1,000.00 to fix. so I'm going to try and attempt to replace the suction line and discharge line as well as the expansion valve myself. Anyone know where I can find a diagram that may help?
Also, my car has only gotten to the halfway point for the engine heat (it has never gone above that) but when I'm idling, I can sometimes smell a burning rubber type of smell and anytime I look under the hood, I don't see the fans on. I can't turn the A/C on to test it, can I? Because there is no A/C and the compressor won't kick on without the refrigerant. I'm just wondering if I should look into that.
I'm also planning on taking the car in (or try myself depending on how difficult it seems) to replace the cover gasket that has a leak.
I love this car and the engine just keeps going, but all these little things add up so much. Maybe it's time to consider a newer used Toyota. I've got a pretty low income, which is why I would prefer to fix it on my own if it looks doable. Sigh. Thanks! Oh and apparently my anti-theft system had been disabled by a mechanic when my aunt owned the car (Something about a short?). But haven't been able to actually find out since she's passed. I doubt it has to do with the other things, but I figured I would share as much as I know with what's going on. Thanks.
